My name is Kimberly, but most people call me Kim or Mrs. E. I am a 5th and 6th Grade Band and Orchestra teacher in Nebraska. I went to a Wartburg College, a private college in Iowa, for my undergrad in Music Education. After that, I taught for six years in Lenox, Iowa as the 5-12 Band Director. I loved both my college and teaching in Lenox. I was fortunate to travel a great deal for both college and teaching. At the end of my six years of teaching, I was offered a Graduate Assistantship at Northwest Missouri State University. So, I ended my years teaching by taking my Band to New York City to play at the United Nations, moved to a different house, and got married to my best friend, Chad. (All in one month). The following year I was a full-time grad student and commuted from Lenox. After completing my Master's, we moved to Nebraska.
We have lived here for four years now. It seems to be going well, after learning how to teach in a MUCH bigger school (and learning to teach Orchestra). In this new place, I have found that I am still a workaholic, but have found much more time for myself and Chad. We have discovered camping during the warmer months. I'm already ready for camping season to start again. Over the last year, my husband and I have been working on bettering ourselves. We went on Nutrisystem to lose some weight that just appeared on our bodies. This was very good for us. We followed up these four months with the program P90X. We completed the 90 days together, but separately! We are now continuing to work on the program in the new year and have continued the eating habits and lifestyle habits that we learned.
I grew up in a small town in Iowa. I have two sisters that are both older than I am. We have a lot of things in common. I think that I grew up trying to be both of my sisters at one time! Not an easy task with two successful sisters! But, one thing that we all have in common is that we like to read and watch movies. I am looking forward to this challenge for 2012! I think that it pairs well with the goal of "Balance" that I gave myself to start the school year. When I get busy, I tend to add more goals, but they are almost always professional. Then, I let personal choices go out the window. I have learned to manage my workouts, but am looking forward to doing this to add to my balance of relaxation and work.
In the next year, I hope to live and work...not just work. (Even with a grad class in two weeks!...but hey, it's google apps in education, so what a better way to combine work with leisure by using blogger and G+!)
That's me with Matthew and Jacob, my step-sons, at a movie this past summer '11!
